Γεια σας και καλό φθινόπωρο! Hello, have a nice autumn! It’s time to do grammar, so in this post there is a list of 20 verbs which form an irregular Simple Past tense (Αόριστος). Although they are very common, their form and use often create confusion.

1. πηγαίνω (to go): πήγα

Το προηγούμενο Σάββατο πήγαμε σε μία συναυλία.

Last Saturday we went to a concert.

2. βλέπω (to see, to watch): είδα

Μήπως είδατε την ομπρέλα μου;

Did you see my umbrella?

3. λέω (to tell, to say): είπα

Είπαν στην μητέρα τους τι έγινε.

They told their mother what happened.

4. τρώω (to eat): έφαγα

Η Αντωνία έφαγε χαλασμένα σύκα.

Antonia ate rotten figs.

5. πίνω (to drink): ήπια

Πόσες μπίρες ήπιες;

How many beers did you drink?

6. είμαι (to be): ήμουν

Ποιος ήταν στο τηλέφωνο;

Who was on the phone?

7. έχω (to have): είχα

Πριν από πολλά χρόνια είχαν ένα σπίτι στο λόφο.

Many years ago they had a house on the hill.

8. μένω (to live, to stay): έμεινα

Χθες έμεινα στο σπίτι γιατί ήμουνα άρρωστη.

Yesterday I stayed home because I was sick.

9. δίνω (to give): έδωσα

Μας έδωσαν κρασί από το νησί τους.

They gave us wine from their island.

10. καταλαβαίνω (to understand): κατάλαβα

Κατάλαβες τι έγινε;

Did you understand what happened?

11. βάζω (to put): έβαλα

Έβαλα τα ρούχα μου σε μια τσάντα και έφυγα.

I put my clothes in a bag and left.

12. βγάζω (to take out): έβγαλα

Όταν μπήκε στο σπίτι, έβγαλε το καπέλο του.

When he got in the house, he took his hat off.

13. παίρνω (to take): πήρα

Τι πήρατε από το σούπερ μάρκετ;

What did you get from the super market?

14. περιμένω (to wait): περίμενα

Δεν περίμενα το λεωφορείο. Πήρα ταξί.

I didn’t wait for the bus. I took a taxi.

15. παραγγέλνω (to order): παράγγειλα

Παραγγείλαμε ψάρι και θαλασσινά

We ordered fish and seafood.

16. στέλνω (to send): έστειλα

Η Μαργαρίτα έστειλε ένα ακριβό δώρο γενεθλίων στην φίλη της.

Margarita sent her friend an expensive birthday present.

17. φέρνω (to bring): έφερα

Έφεραν βότανα από το βουνό.

They brought herbs from the mountain.

18. φεύγω (to go, to leave): έφυγα

Έφυγαν από το πάρτι χωρίς να χαιρετήσουν.

They left the party without saying goodbye.

19. μπαίνω (to enter): μπήκα

Τα παιδιά είχαν ξεχάσει τα κλειδιά τους και μπήκαν στο σπίτι από το παράθυρο.

The children had forgotten their keys and got in the house through the window.

20. βγαίνω (to go out): βγήκα

Τι ώρα βγήκατε χθες το βράδυ;
