Γεια σας! A few months ago, I wrote a post about derogatory compound words. Today, we will see some common compound adjectives formed by καλο- (which means nicely) and an adjective.

#1. καλοαναθρεμμένος-η-ο: well-brought-up

Η κόρη τους είναι ευγενική και καλοαναθρεμμένη. / Their daughter is polite and well brought-up.

#2. καλοβαλμένος-η-ο: elegant, nice-looking

Η Στεφανία είναι πάντα κομψή και καλοβαλμένη, αν και δε φοράει ακριβά ρούχα. / Stephania is always elegant and nice-looking, although she does not wear expensive clothes.

#3. καλόβολος-η-ο: easygoing

Όλοι θέλουν να πηγαίνουν διακοπές με τη Ντίνα γιατί είναι καλόβολη και δεν γκρινιάζει ποτέ. / Everybody wants to go on holiday with Dina because she is easygoing and never complains.

#4. καλογραμμένος-η-ο: well or nicely written.

Τα κείμενά του είναι πάντα ενδιαφέροντα και καλογραμμένα. / His texts are always interesting and well-written.

#5. καλόγουστος-η-ο: of good taste / a person with good taste

Η Λόρι αγοράζει πάντα καλόγουστα δώρα στους φίλους της. / Laurie always buys tasteful presents to her friends.

#6. καλοζωισμένος-η-ο: someone who lives a wealthy life

Η κυρία Μερόπη ήταν ευτυχισμένη και καλοζωισμένη. Δεν έζησε ποτέ στη φτώχεια. / Mrs Merope was happy and lived a wealthy life. She never lived in poverty.

 

 

#7. καλοθρεμμένος-η-ο: well-fed

Τα παπάκια του γείτονά μας είναι γερά και καλοθρεμμένα. / Our neighbor’s ducklings are healthy and well-fed.

#8. καλομαγειρεμένος-η-ο: nicely-cooked

Του αρέσει η μαγειρική για αυτό τα φαγητά του είναι πάντα νόστιμα και καλομαγειρεμένα. / He loves cooking, that’s why his dished are always tasteful ans nicely-cooked.

 #9. καλοντυμένος-η-ο: nicely-dressed (in elegant clothes)

Τα παιδιά της είναι πάντα περιποιημένα και καλοντυμένα. / Her children are always neat and nicely-dressed.

#10. καλοραμμένος-η-ο: nicely-tailored

Ο γαμπρός δεν ήταν όμορφος αλλά φορούσε ένα καλοραμμένο κοστούμι και φαινόταν πολύ κομψός. / The groom was not very handsome but was wearing a well-made suit and looked very elegant.

#11. καλοσιδερωμένος-η-ο: well-ironed

Ο Πέτρος φοράει καλοσιδερωμένα πουκάμισα αλλά σήμερα ήρθε στη δουλειά με ένα παλιό μπλουζάκι. / Petros wears well-ironed shirts but this morning he came to work wearing an old t-shirt.

#12. καλοχτενισμένος-η-ο: having the hair nicely done

Η Βίκη είναι συνέχεια καλοχτενισμένη, ακόμα και όταν πηγαίνει στο περίπτερο. / Vicky has her hair always nicely done, even when she goes at the periptero.

Note that if καλο- is replaced by κακο- (badly), the adjective takes the opposite meaning.

Examples: κακοαναθρεμμένος= rude, unruly / κακόγουστος= in bad taste, etc.
