Is bia veigeatórach é “tófurcaí,” déanta as tófú nó as seitan (prótéin chruithneachta) i gcruth builín (loaf) nó i gcasaról. Cá ndeachaigh an litir “t” a bhí san fhocal “turcaí”? An áit chéanna ina bhfuil an litir “t” a bhí san fhocal Béarla “turkey” nuair a cumadh “tofurkey.” Imithe mar gheall ar rith (flow) an fhocail. So having said all that, and having weighed the various possibilities for spelling “tofurkey” in Irish, which of these could you have as a side dish, assuming you were putting together a béile veigeatórach, or more rigorously still, béile veigeáin? Freagraí thíos.

Agus maidir le “Tofurky” ™, much as there is a world of difference between “whiskey” and “whisky,” at least according to the connoisseurs, there is also a major difference between “tofurkey” and “ Tofurky.” “Tofurkey” is an “ainmfhocal aicmeach” (generic noun) but “Tofurky” is an “ainm branda” (brand name, v. http://www.tofurky.com/)
Ar bhealach, tá an saol níos simplí mar níl an t-éileamh ar “faux turkey” chomh mór in Éirinn (sa Ghaeltacht) is atá sé i Meiriceá. Bheadh sé deacair an t-idirdhealú a dhéanamh idir “tofurkey” (aicmeach) agus “tofurky” (branda) mar is ionann an fhuaim “-ey” agus “-y,” scríofa i nGaeilge mar “aí.”
