Korean Sino & Currency Posted by on Oct 27, 2014 in Uncategorized

In the previous week, you learned Sino-Korean number from 1 to 99. In this week, you will learn bigger numbers and counter for Korean currency (Won).  100 is 백/baek. 1000 is 천/choen. 10,000 is 만/man. 100,000 is 십만/sip man. 1,000,000 is 백만/baek man.

Let’s practice how to conjugate these big numbers.

5 x 100 = 500/ 오백 / o baek

500 + 1000 = 1,500천 오백/ choen o baek

3,000 + 10,000 = 13,000/man sam cheon

**1,000 won is about 1 US dollar. 1,000,000 won is 1,000 US dollar.

Let’s study the examples below how you can use them in real life of Korea.

How much is it? /얼마예요?/ eol ma ye yo?

It is 10,000 won/ 만 원이에요/ man won e e yo. ($10)

How much is this handbag? / 이 가방은 얼마예요? / e ga bang eun eol ma ye yo?
