Last week we started going over useful terms related to smartphones in English. Now let’s get to part II!

notificação – notification

• Acabei de receber a notificação de que alguém está me seguindo no Instagram – I just got a notification that someone is following me on Instagram
• Você tem dez novas notificações no Whatsapp – You have ten new notifications on Whatsapp

fazer uma ligação/ uma chamada – make a call

• Com licença, preciso fazer uma ligação – Excuse me, I need to make a call

mandar/enviar uma mensagem – to text

• Eu mandei uma mensagem para ele há duas horas atrás e ele ainda não respondeu – I texted him two hours ago and he still hasn’t replied
• Nós não ligamos um pro outro mais, mas estamos sempre trocando mensagens – We don’t call each other much, but we’re always texting each other

receber uma mensagem – to get a text

• Acabei de receber uma mensagem do Roberto, ele vai se atrasar – I just got a text from Roberto, he is going to be late

carregar (o telefone) – to charge (the phone)

• Tem uma tomada por aqui? Preciso carregar meu telefone – Is there an outlet around here? I need to charge my phone

carregador – charger

• Esqueci meu carregador em casa, você pode me emprestar o seu? – I left my charger at home, can you lend me yours?

capa – case

• Uma capa resistente protege seu aparelho – A  solid case protects your device

aplicativo – app

• O Instagram é meu aplicativo favorito! – Instagram is my favorite app!
• Não instale esse aplicativo, ele é muito lento – Don’t install this app, it is too slow

deletar/apagar – delete

• Preciso apagar algumas fotos, minha memória está quase acabando – I need to delete some pictures, my memory is almost used up
• Por que você deletou sua mensagem? – Why did you delete your text?

toque – ringtone

• O toque de celular dela é a música tema de Guerra nas Estrelas – Her ringtone is the Star Wars’ theme song

sinal – reception

• Vou te ligar de novo mais tarde, o sinal aqui é muito ruim! – I’ll call you back because reception here really sucks
• É difícil conseguir sinal na estrada – It is hard to get reception on the road

senha – password

• Para se conectar ao Wi-Fi, você vai precisar da senha – To connect to the wi-fi, you will need the password

modo silencioso – silent mode

• A peça vai começar, coloquem seus aparelhos no modo silencioso – The play is about to begin, please set your phones to silent mode
• Esqueci de colocar meu celular no silencioso e ele tocou no meio da cerimônia! – I forgot to switch my phone to silent and it rang in the middle of the wedding!

colocar crédito – to top up your phone

• Não consigo mandar mensagem pra ninguém agora, preciso colocar crédito primeiro – I can’t text anyone right now, I need to top up my phone first

atualizar –  update

• Para utilizar os novos recursos, você precisa atualizar o aplicativo – To enjoy the new features, you need to update the app

digitar – type

• Marta está digitando uma resposta – Marta is typing a reply

operadora – provider

• As taxas da minha operadora estão muito altas, estou pensando em trocar – My provider rates are too high, I’m thinking of switching

chip – SIM card

• Você sabe onde eu consigo comprar um chip novo para meu celular? – Do you know where I can get a new SIM card for my phone?

3G – data

• Meu 3G acabou muito rápido esse mês – I ran out of data so quickly this month

chamada/ligação perdida – missed call

• Opa, tenho 7 chamadas perdidas de casa! Algo deve ter acontecido – Whoa, I’ve got 7 missed calls from home! Something must have happened

tirar uma selfie – take a selfie

• Cheguem mais perto e vamos tirar uma selfie juntas – Gather around and let’s take a selfie together

tirar uma foto – take a picture

• Adoro tirar fotos com esse celular, a câmera dele é muito boa! – I love taking pictures with this phone, its camera is so good!

postar uma foto – post a picture

• Você viu a foto nova que a Rihanna postou? – Did you see the new picture that Rihanna just posted?
