passar da conta – to exaggerate, to drink too much

• Acho que passei da conta, preciso de uma aspirina | I think I’ve had too much, I need an aspirin

afogar as mágoas – to drown your sorrows, to drink to forget your problems

• Depois de terminar o relacionamento, ele só quer saber de afogar as mágoas | After he broke up, all he does is drown his sorrows
• Ficar afogando as mágoas no álcool não vai resolver seus problemas | Drowning your sorrows in alcohol won’t solve your problems

tomar um/estar de porre – to get/ be drunk

• Tomei um porre ontem à noite e agora estou de ressaca | I boozed up last night and now I’m hungover

trocando as pernas – literally, “swaping legs”, when you’re so drunk you can’t walk

• Ela foi vista saindo da festa trocando as pernas | She was seen leaving the party completely drunk

ficar/estar bêbado – to get/ be drunk

• Só tomei uma cerveja e já estou ficando bêbado | I only had one beer and I’m already getting drunk
• Não posso ficar bêbado hoje porque tenho que trabalhar cedo amanhã | I can’t get drunk today because I have to work early tomorrow

ficar/estar tonto – to get/ be tipsy

• Por que você está agindo assim? Está tonto? | Why are you acting like that? Are you tipsy?

chapado – wasted

• Será que dá pra notar que eu estou chapado? | Can people tell that I’m wasted?

ficar sóbrio – to sober up

• Esse cafézinho vai te ajudar a ficar sóbrio | This coffee will help you sober up
• Preciso ficar sóbria antes de encontrar com ele | I need to sober up before I meet him

dar PT – total loss, to be so drunk you start feeling sick

• Ela foi dar PT logo na festa do trabalho, acabou pegando mal | She got super wasted at the office party, it made her look bad
• O João deu PT na boate ontem e teve que ser carregado pra casa | João got too drunk at the club last night and had to be carried home

entornar – literally, to spill, to drink more than usual

• Já que amanhã não tem aula, hoje eu vou entornar | Since there are no classes tomorrow, I’m getting my booze on today

tomar a saideira – to get one for the road, nightcap

• Vamos só tomar a saideira antes de chamar o táxi! | Let’s just get one for the road before we call the cab
• O bar já vai fechar, então agora é hora da saideira | Bar is closing, so it’s time to get one for the road

bebedeira – to be on a bender

• Pra muitas pessoas, carnaval é tempo de bebedeira | For many people, carnival is time to be on a bender
• Nas férias, meus amigos só querem saber de bebedeira | Over the break, all my friends care about is binge drinking

ficar/ estar de ressaca – to have a hangover/ to be hungover

• Estou com uma ressaca enorme, não devia ter bebido tanta cerveja | I’m so hungover, I shouldn’t have drunk all that beer
• Dizem que tomar água de côco é ótimo pra ressaca | They say that drinking coconut water is great for hangovers

And let’s not forget two very important ones: beba com moderação e se beber, não dirija! | drink responsibly and don’t drink and drive!
