Stop burning my film, dude! Posted by on Sep 24, 2013 in Video

E aí galera? What’s up, guys?

This week, my video is a little different. A couple of weeks ago, I went to a party called Real Life English, a party here in Brazil where you can only speak in English, and I interviewed two of the creators of this awesome project: Justin Murray and Josh Plotkin.

Justin told me a funny story about a misunderstanding using Brazilian slang. He was going to meet his American friend, who was crossing the Brazil/Bolivia border, and he sent a text saying: E aí, beleza cara?  But his friend only speaks Spanish, and he translated it as “beautiful face” instead of “what’s up dude” and he got a little confused. Now he knows the real meaning and they got a funny story to tell.

And Josh taught a slang queimar o filme. If you translate that slang, you will see that the real meaning is “burn the film” or “burn someone’s film”, but in here means “harm somebody’s reputation”. Like if someone say bad thing about you to another person, he is “bueimando seu filme” (burning your film).

So guys, this was my post today. If you guys have any questions, feel free to ask me and I hope you guys enjoy it.

See you guys on my next post.

Falou!
