Way out West Posted by on Aug 31, 2016 in Culture

The Way Out West music festival is one of the biggest events in Gothenburg and also in Sweden. Gothenburg will constantly do things differently than the capital. Sometimes it succeeds sometimes it’s less of an accomplishment. The line-up is fancier and fancier every year and the rumors tell that the management organizing probably the festival for the last time this year. It sells and you feel special every year that you been there. But it never seems to end, but it becomes every year more and more hipster and pretentious. Now is that a wrong thing? I have never said anything like that.

This year they only sold vegetarian food and it was so well done that many of the meat-eaters I met at the festival had been “lured to think” it was actually meet. One Brasilien guy tried to convince me that there was actually one place in the whole festival area where they were selling dishes with meat. Nope. There wasn’t any. Some might find it pretentious but some would say it was an eco and environment-thinking included.

I have seen though this year many old festivalers who didn’t get the ideas. Why can you only drink beer and beverages in certain beer-tents and not in front of the stage. Well, the organizers first reason was the safty of women at the concert because it had been quite a few sexual assaults and offensive contacts towards women on other festivals. It is very said that you can’t enjoy a festival without trusting that adults will behave in a certain and expected way. On the other hand the crowd was much calmer and no one was hurt during the WOW-festival. Maybe they should also ban smoking because people still got holes on their clothes because of others were smoking in the crowd during the concert instead of drinking from plastic mugs which is seen as a big NO-NO.
