Ahlan, Arabic lovers! Since libraries play an important role in our lives, in today’s post we are going to explore some useful language that is used in a library setting through some dialogues. You will have the full dialogue in Arabic and then the same dialogue translated into English.
المحادثة الأولى: الحصول على بطاقة عضوية
أمين المكتبة: أهلاً، كيف يمكننى أن اساعدك يا سيدى؟
الزبون: أهلاً، أود أن أستعير هذا الكتاب.
أمين المكتبة: بالتأكيد! هل لديك بطاقة عضوية؟
الزبون: كلا.
أمين المكتبة: فليكن. لكى تحصل على واحدة، أحتاج منك أن تملأ هذا الطلب. كما سأحتاج منك أى بطاقة هوية.
الزبون: بالتأكيد، سأملأ الطلب. ما هى الخدمات التى يمكننى الحصول عليها ببطاقة العضوية؟
أمين المكتبة: يمكنك الدخول على أى مرجع فى نظامنا، و يشمل ذلك؛ الكتب، و كتب الإستماع و الأقراص المدمجة و كذلك خدماتنا على الإنترنت مثل ترانسبيرنت لانجويج.
الزبون: يا إلهى! يا ليتنى اشتركت سابقاً. ها هو طلبى.
أمين المكتبة: عظيم، لقد سجلت لك الكتاب.
الزبون: متى يمكننى إرجاعه؟
أمين المكتبة: تحتاج أن ترجع الكتاب خلال أربعة عشر (14) يوماً.
الزبون: و هل يمكننى تجديد الإستعارة بعد الأسبوعين؟
أمين المكتبة: نعم! فقط أحضره معك و سوف نجدد لك طالما أن أحداً آخر لم يطلبه.
الزبون: شكراً كثيراً لك.
أمين المكتبة: على الرحب و السعة! استمتع!
Dialog #1: Getting a Library Card
Librarian: Hello.
Patron: Hi, I would like to check out (borrow) this book.
Librarian: Sure! Do you have a library card?
Patron: No.
Librarian: Okay. To get one, I’ll need you to fill in this application. I’ll also need to see a form of ID.
Patron: Sure, I’ll fill this out. What can I access with my library card?
Librarian: You can access any resource in our system, including books, audio books, CDs, DVDs, and even online services like Transparent Language Online.
Patron: Wow! I wish I had signed up sooner. Here’s my application.
Librarian: Great, I’ve checked out the book to you.
Patron: When is it due?
Librarian: You need to return the book within 14 days.
Patron: Can I renew it after two weeks?
Librarian: Yes! Just bring it back and we can renew it as long as no one has it on hold.
Patron: Thank you so much.
Librarian: You’re welcome! Enjoy!
