Well, I grew up watching my dad and “Jido” جدو (grandpa) playing طاولة while drinking tea in the living room. My aunt عمتي then taught me how to play and I’ve been hooked ever since.

اليوم تجد الناس يلعبون لعبة الطاولة في بيوتهم وفي المقاهي وحتى مع ناس من بلاد مختلفة عبر الإنترنت. تعتبر لعبة معروفة في جميع البلاد العربية 

Is backgammon common among people today?

Today, you find people playing backgammon at home, in cafes, and even with people from different countries online. It is a well-known game in all Arab countries.

الهدف هو أن يمرر كل لاعب أحجار اللاعب الخاصة به من نقطة البداية أو من أماكن تواجدها عند بداية اللعبة وعبر الخانات الموجودة على اللوح إلى أن يتمكن من تمرير جميع أحجاره إلى القسم الخاص به. ثم يبدأ كل لاعب بإخراج أحجار الخمسة عشر من بيته قبل الخصم ليحقق الفوز

ويكون مبدأ اللعب واحد من كل الطرق لكن هناك فروقات بسيطة للقوانين بين هذه الطرق. سوف نتعرف عليها بالتفصيل خلال المقطع القادم

The goal is for each player to pass the other player’s stones from the starting point or where they are at the start of the game through the columns on the board until they are able to pass all their stones to their own section. Then each player begins to remove the fifteen stones from his house before the opponent in order to win. There are three common ways to play backgammon:

“shesh besh”, “locked up”, and “31”. The principle of play is the same in all ways, but there are slight differences in the laws between these methods. We will learn about it in detail in the next part.
