In this post, I present the answers of the listening comprehension exercise on the Qatari economy presented earlier.

The questions cover the first 1 minute and 33 seconds of the news report.  You can use the useful vocabulary to facilitate your comprehension!

A- Questions and answers:

1- What has the Qatari economy achieved over the last two decades?

The Qatari economy has taken big strides over the last two decades and became one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

2- When did huge changes occur to the Qatari economy?

Huge changes occurred to the Qatari economy in the first decade of the third millennium.

3- What is the most important factor that lead to the change?

The factors that lead to the change are that Qatar became the largest exporter of liquefied natural gas in the world, in addition to supporting the production of oil and other sectors in the economy.

4- How was the growth rate of the GDP in 2012?

The growth rate of the GDP in 2012 was at a slower rate.

5- What is the growth rate of the GDP in 2012 and 2011?

 The growth rate of the GDP in 2012 is about 12.2% and the growth rate of the GDP in 2011 is about 27.1%

B- Transcribe the first two sentences of the news report from قفزات until في العالم

قفزات كبيرة للاقتصاد القطري خلال نحو عقدين من الزمن، جعلت منه واحدا من أسرع الاقتصادات نموا في العالم رغم التبعات السلبية للأزمة المالية العالمية.

تغييرات هائلة طرأت على هذا الاقتصاد خلال العقد الأوّل من الألفية الثالثة، حين أصبحت قطر أكبر مُصدِّر للغاز الطبيعي المُسال في العالم.

Useful vocabulary

قفزات  = jumps / strides

اقتصاد = economy

عقد  = decade

نمو = growth

تغييرات  = changes

مُصدِّر  = exporter

الغاز الطبيعي المُسال  = liquefied natural gas

دعم  = support

إنتاج  = production

النفط  = oil

قطاع  = sector

الناتج المحلي الإجمالي  = Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

بوتيرة أهدأ = at a slower rate

 مقارنة ب = compared to
