Ramadan came Posted by on May 29, 2017 in Arabic Language, Culture, Vocabulary

The holy month of Ramadan is here again. Muslims around the world celebrated the beginning of the holy month 3 days ago.  In this post, I present a traditional song from Egypt to welcome the holy month. The song is called Ramadan came (رمضان جانا).

Ramadan came and we are happy with it
After a long wait for a long time
Sing for it the whole month
Sing and say “Welcome Ramadan”
Ramadan came, welcome Ramadan
Join us and say, welcome Ramadan
You take a long time, and we miss you
And every year you come once, and we wait for you
We spend a long time counting the days and preparing
Ramadan came, welcome Ramadan
Join us and say, welcome Ramadan

When you come and we see youm like a groom
We cheer and make decorations of different shapes and colours
When you arrive, we hit the drums, cheer and say
Ramadan came, welcome Ramadan
Join us and say, welcome Ramadan
Oh Musahir*, hit your drum, under our windows
Sing for us all night until dawn
Make a celebration for 30 beautiful nights
Ramadan came, welcome Ramadan
Join us and say, welcome Ramadan

*Musahir is the person who wakes people up to eat before dawn
