Bianco Natale Posted by Geoff on Dec 20, 2017 in Translation
Yes dear readers, here it is: The Inevitable Festive Blog!
I have to admit that we’re not particularly interested in Christmas. We’re not religious, have no children, and don’t care to fill our lives with useless cianfrusaglie, so it simply doesn’t mean much to us. What’s more, we have no TV and live in a pretty remote corner of the world, so are spared the usual bombardment of Christmas stereotypes.
But that’s just us, and I’m sure that for many of you Christmas holds something special. So here’s a touch of festive nostalgia with a twist, feel free to sing along!
Bianco Natale – White Christmas
Col bianco tuo candor, neve
sai dar la gioia ad ogni cuor,
è Natale ancora
la grande festa
che sa tutti conquistar.
With your white purity, snow
you know how to bring joy to every heart,
it’s Christmas again
the great festival
that wins everyone over.
Un canto vien dal ciel, lento,
che con la neve dona a noi
un Natale pieno d’amor
un Natale di felicità.
A song comes lightly from the sky
which with the snow gives us
a Christmas full of love
a Christmas full of happiness
I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow
E viene giù dal ciel, lento,
un dolce canto ammaliator
dalle stelle fino a quaggiù,
è Natale, non soffrire più,
mai più, mai più, mai più!
And lightly, down from the sky,
a sweet enchanting song
comes to us from the stars,
it’s Christmas, suffer no more,
no more, no more, no more!
Dreaming of Christmas time
Dreaming of a white Christmas etc.
Dalle stelle fino a quaggiù,
è Natale, non soffrire più, più, più …
è Natale, non soffrire più!
Buone Feste a tutti!
P.S. here are a couple of alternatives for those of you who, like us, are tired of the usual seasonal stereotypes.
Warning: watch at your own risk!
