Ciao a tutti! 

Today I wanted to share some reading practice around daily routine. As you may know, a lot of daily routine verbs are reflexive, and therefore need to include a reflexive pronoun when conjugating them.

The pronomi riflessivi (reflexive pronouns) are:

mi (myself)

ti (yourself singular informal)

si (himself/herself/yourself singular formal)

ci (ourselves)

vi (yourselves)

si (themselves)

Here are some examples of reflexive verbs:

accomodarsi – to sit down, to take a seat

addormentarsi – to go to sleep

alzarsi – to get up

annoiarsi – to get bored, to be bored

arrabbiarsi – to get angry

chiamarsi – to be called

chiedersi – to wonder

divertirsi – to enjoy oneself; to have fun

farsi male – to hurt oneself

fermarsi – to stop oneself

lavarsi – to wash oneself, to get washed

perdersi – to get lost

pettinarsi – to comb one’s hair

preoccuparsi – to worry

prepararsi – to get ready

ricordarsi – to remember

rilassarsi – to relax oneself

sbrigarsi – to hurry

svegliarsi – to wake up

vestirsi – to dress oneself, to get dressed

Marisa: Ciao Alex! Come va? Non ti sei pettinato i capelli stamani? Sei tutto spettinato!

Alex: Lo so Marisa. Non è giornata. Non ho chiuso occhio tutta la notte.

Marisa: Perchè?

Alex: Non ne parliamo. Non voglio annoiarti.

Marisa: Ma cosa dici! Siamo amici! Racconta, sono tutta orecchie.

Alex: Ti ricordi, ti ho parlato di un lavoro part‑time che mi interessa molto?

Marisa: Il lavoro all’agenzia di viaggi?

Alex: Sì. Allora, due giorni fa mi hanno telefonato per fare un colloquio. Abbiamo fissato un colloquio per oggi alle 11 di mattina.

Marisa: Ovviamente! Tu sei molto in gamba. Vai avanti.

Alex: Grazie Marisa, ma oggi è stato un vero disastro! Questa mattina mi sono svegliato come sempre alle 7 e mi sono fatto il caffè, ma con il cuore a mille per l’emozione, così non ho fatto colazione.

Alex: Ho pensato per prima cosa butto via la spazzatura, poi do da mangiare al gatto. Dopo mi faccio una doccia al volo e mi rado come tutte le mattine. E poi mi vesto per andare al colloquio. Un piano perfetto, solo che…

Marisa: Alex, non mi far stare sulle spine!

Alex: Quando sono andato a buttare la spazzatura sono inciampato e sono caduto in una pozzanghera enorme! Per fortuna non mi sono fatto male.

Alex: Quando mi sono rialzato mi è caduto il telefono nella pozza e si è rotto! E sono senz’acqua in casa da stamani.

Marisa: Povero Alex! Che giornataccia! E quindi? Sei andato così al colloquio di lavoro?

Alex: Marisa, non sono andato al colloquio. Mi sono stressato e vergognato.

Marisa: Che sfortuna, Alex! Vieni a casa mia e ti fai una doccia, ne hai bisogno.

Marisa: Hi Alex! How are you? Didn’t you comb your hair this morning? You are all disheveled!

Alex: I know Marisa. It’s not a good day. I didn’t sleep a wink all night.

Marisa: Why?

Alex: We don’t talk about it. I do not want to bore you.

Marisa: What are you saying! We are friends! Tell me, I’m all ears.

Alex: Do you remember, I told you about a part-time job that I am interested in?

Marisa: The work at the travel agency?

Alex: Yes. So, two days ago they called me for an interview. We set up an interview for today at 11 in the morning.

Marisa: Of course! You are very capable. Go ahead.

Alex: Thanks Marisa, but today it was a real disaster! This morning I woke up as always at 7 and made myself coffee, but with my heart pounding with emotion, so I didn’t have breakfast.

Alex: I thought first I’ll take out the trash, then I’ll feed the cat. After I’ll take a quick shower and shave like every morning. And then I’ll get dressed to go to the interview. A perfect plan, only…

Marisa: Alex, don’t keep me on the edge!

Alex: When I went to take out the trash I tripped and fell into a huge puddle! Luckily I didn’t get hurt.

Alex: When I got up my phone dropped into the puddle and broke! And I’ve been without water in the house since this morning.

Marisa: Poor Alex! What a bad day! So what? Did you go to the job interview like that?

Alex: Marisa, I didn’t go to the interview. I got stressed and ashamed.

Marisa: What bad luck, Alex! Come to my house and take a shower, you need it.
