Adele Does it Again by Breaking World Records Posted by on Dec 26, 2015 in Arabic Language

Marhaba! Based on many previous posts, you all know that I love music and I always mention that one smart way for you to pick up Arabic quickly is through music. Today, my post is not about music in the Arab world, but about an artist that is loved in the Middle East, North Africa, the Americas, and almost every corner of the world. I am talking about Adele. Yes, I believe you have come across at least one of her famous songs. In a previous post, I shared the lyrics of her latest song ‘Hello’ in Arabic. I always strive to provide you with interesting comprehension exercises based on latest trends and developments in the world. Against this backdrop, Adele’s most recent album is shattering world records. What better way than learning more about this top story in the news then answering a couple of questions and translating a sentence from Arabic to English? I am sharing a somewhat recent news article about Adele from BBC Arabic. Make sure you spend some time reading the short text to answer the questions and translate the sentence. Good luck!!

Questions:
1) How many copies did Adele’s album sell in the United States in its first week?

2) How many copies did the album sell in the United Kingdom?

3) Who is the other artist whom Adele surpassed in album sales for the year 2015?

4) Why did the tweets of the New York Times about Adele receive so much criticism?

5) Translate the following sentence to English:

أم تبلغ من العمر 27 عاما نادرا ما تستخدم مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي تبيع المزيد من الألبومات أكثر من أي شخص آخر اعتقد أنه أمر ممكن

For now take care and stay tuned for the answers soon!
Happy Learning!

Salam everyone! Born as an American to two originally Arab parents, I have been raised and have spent most of my life in Beirut, Lebanon. I have lived my good times and my bad times in Beirut. I was but a young child when I had to learn to share my toys and food with others as we hid from bombs and fighting during the Lebanese Civil War. I feel my connection to Arabic as both a language and culture is severing and so it is with you, my readers and fellow Arabic lovers, and through you that I wish to reestablish this connection by creating one for you.
