Whether you prefer corned beef, corned pork, Dublin coddle, or oak-smoked salmon, March is the month for celebrating the Irish menu.  Here’s a little matching quiz to provide a little bilingual culinary challenge.   Each food item has at least two words and the phrase may need one or more Irish words.  A few of the entries are used twice (indicated by “x2”).  Aistriúcháin agus freagraí thíos; answers and translations below.

By the way, of course, there are many other traditional Irish foods, but for this exercise I mostly looked for ones that have a specific Irish reference in the name, like Irish, Dublin, shamrock, etc.  But there were a few I couldn’t resist, even though the reference is a little more general,  like the corned meats and the ice-cream.  A specifically Irish ice-cream?  Yes.  I’ve made it and can definitely say it’s “an-bhlasta.”

Of these foods, which is your favorite?   Scríobh isteach agus inis dúinn, más mian leat!

Banc Focal:

beatha,   Bhá,  bhán,  Bhaile Átha Cliath,

Arís, bheadh sé go deas cloisteáil uait — cé acu seo is fearr leat mar bhia do Lá Fhéile Pádraig nó d’am ar bith sa bhliain.
