2014 World Cup of Languages: Semi-Final Results Posted by on Jul 10, 2014 in Archived Posts

If you’ve been following the FIFA World Cup, you’ll understand what I mean when I say: holy freakin’ moly. What a week it’s been, right? The 2014 World Cup of Languages is bringing the drama this week as well with our two Semi-Final match-ups. If you’ve been following along, prepare to be shocked!

Japanese vs. French: It was a back-and-forth battle from beginning to end, but Japanese could not be stopped, racking up 1,781 points to French’s 769 points. The French learners put in a stellar effort, but those Japanese learners have endurance like no other. Keep on learnin’, Japanese fans, because you’re in the finals!

Italian vs. Korean: In a match so dramatic I couldn’t have made it up if I tried, Korean suffered a loss as embarrassing as the Brazilian national team this week. (Sorry, fellas!) It looked like the Korean learners didn’t quite show up this week, scoring only 2 points. Yup, that’s a two. Meanwhile, the Italian learners showed up in force, scoring an impressive 954 points. Better log in and keep learning, Italian fans, because you’re up against the formidable Japanese opponent in the finals!

And to my dear Korean learners, I’m only kidding. You all put forth a monumental effort throughout the competition. I hope you’ve enjoyed learning with us! And hey, at least you scored more points than Brazil, right? 😉

Learners, you have until 9am EST on Monday 7/14 to learn those last few vocabulary lists, practice your pronunciation on those tricky words, and watch the rest of the grammar videos. The final results will be announced that morning, and to everyone who has played along, stay tuned for a special surprise in your e-mail as our way of saying thank you!

Oh no Korean! Thats a very umm… sad loss lol. 2 points! But congrats Italian!
I have been unable to come onto the computer much because of California’s super hot weather (Don’t want another computer to fry haha). Thank you Transparent Language for all the free study materials, I have learned A LOT! (The PDF files will go a long way with me still!)
Thanks sooo much again! I will keep in touch with this site.

@Rob I was wondering where you had gone to! When I saw the results, I immediately double-checked for your points, because I thought it couldn’t be true! 😉 But obviously life happens, and this round was only 2 days long, so what can ya do?

I’m so glad you enjoyed learning with Transparent Language Online!

      • iji:

@meaghan Yes, indeed, it was a very short round. Yesterday I was talking with a colleague that I only have time until 7/9 since on 7/10 I was at work and then it struck me… it was already 7/9. Lol. So I thought I should get some points on the morning of 7/10 at around 6 a.m. 🙂

Now that Japanese went to finals, I can finish the last unit of Essentials ver.2 (ver.3 is already done. Awesome units!!) and learn some verbs (1+8 lists).

  2. iji:

hi, meaghan. do you happen to know why the app is not giving me a blue mark (passing mark) on “Verbs 1”? i’ve done all steps and also passed the assessment. i’ll have to mark lessons on paper to keep track :))

    • iji:

@iji it’s fine now. i’ve managed to convince it to display blue 🙂
