New: Ukrainian Localization Posted by meaghan on Apr 15, 2025 in For Learners, For Libraries
Our most learned language in Transparent Language Online: English.
And of the 36 languages we teach English in, one language has been surging: Ukrainian.
Since the release of the beginner English for Ukrainian speakers course, it’s become the 4th most learned English pair among library patrons.
Which makes sense given that libraries have taken the lead on welcoming Ukrainian newcomers to their communities.
To help those newcomers dive straight into learning English without having to figure out how to navigate the app in English, we’ve added Ukrainian localization.
Ukrainian speakers can now flip a switch (ok, click a button) for an entire learning experience in their native language. Every button. Label. Lesson name. Activity directions.
Why teach English in the learner’s native language?
For comprehension and for comfort.
Presenting a new word of phrase alongside the native language translation helps with comprehension and retention. And bridges the gap for beginners who may lack confidence about their ability to learn English.
That’s why we have beginner English courses taught in 36 languages. After that, it’s English-only for intermediate and advanced courses.
And for our most learned ESL pairs, learners can also localize the entire interface into their native language, including:
- Arabic
- Danish
- Spanish
- French (and Canadian French)
- Korean
- Portuguese
- Turkish
- and now… Ukrainian!
