Brazilian music – Dia dos namorados Posted by on Jun 11, 2018 in Brazilian News, Brazilian Profile, Culture, Customs, Entertainment, Music, Video

Boa noite a todos! Good evening to all! Estão prontos para o dia dos namorados amanhã? Are you guys ready for valentine’s day tomorrow?

Now, wait a minute. Did you just say valentine’s day? Wasn’t that months ago, back in fevereiro (february)? Well, as some of you might know, here in Brazil things are a little different. While our festive spirit and warm weather makes it ideal for romance all year long, our official dia dos namorados (valentine’s day), unlike most countries, is on doze de junho (June 12th). But why, you are probably wondering. If you haven’t already, you may find the answers to these questions on this post published a year ago with some useful phrases, expressions and dia dos namorados history here in Brazil. Check it out to review and practice vocab that you get you in the mood for love:

Valentine’s Day – Dia dos Namorados in Brazil

Now that you learned how to express your feelings in Portuguese, how about we celebrate this romantic date with a música (song)? Love is possibly the most popular subject in music, so it is no easy task to pick among the thousands and thousands of hits out there that sing about passion. But if we focus on Brazil’s favorite love tunes, then we can narrow it down a bit.

My choice today is an all-time beloved song by the giant Tim Maia. Então vamos celebrar o amor? So let’s celebrate love?

[Music to Listen to] – Part IV

Considered by many the ultimate love song, Tim Maia’s melody will have all valentines swooning over each other. Preparem seus corações! Prepare your hearts!

Você | You

De repente a dor

Suddenly the pain

De esperar terminou

Ended from all the waiting

E o amor veio enfim

And love finally came

Eu que sempre sonhei

Me, who always dreamed

Mas não acreditei

But hadn’t much faith

Muito em mim

A lot in me

Vi o tempo passar

Saw time go by

O inverno chegar

The winter come

Outra vez mas desta vez

Once again, but this time

Todo pranto sumiu

All the crying has gone

Um encanto surgiu

A spell was cast

Meu amor

My love

Você

You

É mais do que sei

Are more than I know

É mais que pensei

More than I thought

É mais que esperava, baby

Are more than I hoped for, baby

Você

You

É algo assim

Are something like this

É tudo pra mim

You are my everything

É como eu sonhava, baby

You are like I dreamed, baby

Sou feliz agora

I am happy now

Não não vá embora não

Please don’t go

Não não não não não

No no no no no
