É primavera! It is spring! Posted by on Sep 25, 2018 in Brazilian Profile, Culture, Entertainment, Learning, Music, Video

Boa noite a todos! Good evening, everyone!

A primavera (spring) has just begun here in Brazil! We now say goodbye to the cold inverno (winter) and greet the flowers and nice clima (weather) from spring. I was personally looking forward to it! And what estação (season) are you in in your part of the world?

So, in order to dar boas-vindas (welcome) this transition, how about singing a música (song) that couldn’t possibly be more appropriate for the occasion: Tim Maia’s “Primavera”.

The great Tim Maia was also featured in these other posts previously in our blog:

Tim Maia: 70 Years

Brazilian music – Dia dos namorados

[Music to Listen to] – Part IV

The legendary carioca artist combines some soul, funk and disco music to create a powerful, catchy and often romantic hits and party favorites known by most Brazilians. Such is the case of our chosen song of the dia (day), the all-time classic “Primavera”(or spring), from his primeiro (first) work, the 1970 album named after the cantor (singer). Check out the song and lyrics below, with English subtitles. He also mentions other seasons in Portuguese. Can you identify them in the song?

Listen to it, follow the lyrics, sing along out loud or just chill while it plays:
